EDIT:: Added more shadows on the figure, also made the lineart on her thicker, and added a bolder border around the background.

Done for the 100 Themes Challenge [theme is 'desert']. Prismacolour Pencils, Sakura Micron Pens, Watercolour Base (well, Acrylics actually but used in the style of watercolours. I have a wider range of colours for my acrylics and they produce pretty much the same effect). About ... 5 hours.

The traditional art-ness is ... due to my tablet breaking, AGAIN. AGAIN, I TELL YOU. THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME.
But I think you progress a lot more if you practice Traditional Media, because if you still have a lottt to learn like me then Digital Art provides ... more shortcuts ... which I dont think I should take.
I'm glad I've proved to myself I actually do backgrounds; all my older ones are just awful so I thought it was due to me being bad at them, but now I know I was just lazy. Unfortunately, I haven't conquered my scanner and I reaaally can't do highlights with pencils. Gah the list of things to work on just grows and grows. =\
Yeah, I've been kind of beating myself up about my art recently and I don't think it's a very good attitude to have. It's just ... I really want to excel in it and there's so much WORK to do to get where I want to be, that I don't know where to start.
The anthro is a swift fox. It was originally meant to be a fennec, but I didn't know how to handle the ears and then I thought the scenary didn't look quite like an African desert (with all the sand dunes and very little vegetation), and more like an American desert. So I just looked up which fox species lived in American deserts and found one which suited it best. XD
Yeah, you shouldn't be so hard with yourself. Learning how to be a great artist isn't like learning how to drive a car. Just be patient with yourself and you'll come along. Asking some of the greater artists about techniques might help, but you're doing well enough on your own at the moment. Just stay positive! You're doing great!

You know... I actually think your traditional art is better than your digital art. Then again, I am probably biased in favor of trad art. But really, yours is very good.
I really like your usage of color in this, especially the way the background is significantly darker than the foreground - it gives it an excellent sense of depth. The blending is also good, and I love the way that even simple objects are rich with different colors.
For what I think could be improved, there's only one main thing that stands out. In a desert scene such as this, I would expect the lighting to be pretty strong and distinct directionally. I can tell that the lightsource is coming to the right and somewhat behind the viewer, but I would expect the shadows - especially cast shadows made by things like the cacti and the fox's spear - to be more distinct. There are also parts of the fox that would be in shadow if the lightsource were coming from where it seems like it's coming from.

Oooh, this came out so well! I was immediately attracted to it upon seeing it as a thumbnail while browsing. The color is just so rich, and the fact that you went all-out and did a full backdrop is wonderful. We don't see that nearly often enough browsing the anthro category here.
I'm highly envious of your rock drawing abilities! They're something I struggle with personally, so I'm loving how you did them here. They look both suitably realistic and artistically attractive at the same time. I love their texture and the myriad of colors I see hinted in them. The desert scenery came out beautifully all in all, but the rocks are definitely my favorite part.

I'm not sure if it ever gets shorter. At any rate, I'm not sure you're giving yourself enough credit. This looks great! Very nicely done, Aleisou.
Is the anthro a coyote?
